On October 7, 2008 after receiving complaints from our members that they are many times unaware of what is going on around them, while either working the streets or at part-time because of us not having the ability of listening to the County Police. I believe this is a major safety issue and we had to address it immediately. Our collective bargaining agreement under Article 10 (C) states that “EVERY Sheriff’s cruiser shall be equipped with a County Police radio in addition to the Sheriff’s radios. Police and fire radios will be transitioned to Sheriff’s vehicles over the next eighteen (18) months.” These radios have been in transition since my arrival to the agency in 2004. The Sheriff is violation of this section of the contract, so we have filed a grievance on behalf of all affected members of the bargaining unit (Lt’s and below). I will keep everyone updated on this grievance as time goes on….. President Cease
On September 16, 2008 after receiving many concerns from our members in Court Services about the Low Staffing, Dead Spots with the Radio System (Parts of all three floors of the Duvall wing suffer from poor or no radio reception) and over all safety concerns I have filed a grievance on behalf of our members who work in Court Services with Sheriff Michael Jackson to address these concerns. On July 9, 1997 Judge William D. Missouri signed an order that mandated the Office of the Sheriff to provide each type (Criminal, Civil or Domestic Relations) of courtroom with a certain number of Deputies Sheriffs please see the order for specifics. I’m sure the Sheriff and I are looking to obtain the same end result for our members/employees and that result would be to have a safe working environment for all of our members/employees..... I will keep everyone updated on this grievance as time goes on......President Cease
